The origins of the Trapani village of Vita
The Sicilian village of Vita takes its name from Vito Sicomo, a very ingenious figure who obtained a law degree and was a servant of the Count of Modica. Later, he placed himself at the service of the Kingdom of Spain, becoming adviser to King Philip III and acquiring the role of administrator of Justice. He was a very ambitious man, who obtained the feud of Cartipoli and the neighboring lands. In 1605, he received the mandate to populate the earth with Lifefrom which it took its name. On 11 March 1607, he gave life to a new village with that denomination.
What to visit in the village of Vita province of Trapani
The community of life is located in the heart of Trapani and is the smallest in the province. Those who visit it can take a look at the Church of San Francesco, one of the major local attractions, with inside what was once the convent of the friars. Today the structure is the seat of the municipality of Vita and the Church houses the coffin of the SS. Crucifix, as well as several murals depicting ancient crafts. The streets of the town are very suggestive, with the chance to admire a delightful limestone fountain in the very centre Piazza Libertà.
The village also includes the Daidone Palace, seat of the Civic Museum. Another church to visit is the one dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, which has majestic well-decorated walls inside. The origins of this building concern a prodigious event. In fact, it is said that a local man with a paralyzed arm saw the Blessed Virgin in a dream, who asked her to build a chapel for her. When he woke up, he was able to recover the use of the limb. In the following years, the Chapel was expanded to become the church we all know. To her, patron saint of the small village, is dedicated Feast of the Madonna di Tagliavia held annually on Ascension Day, 40 days after Easter.
