History of the Cathedral of Cefalù
Legend has it that the construction of the Cathedral of Cefalù was a vote of King Roger II of Altavilla as a symbol of gratitude after having escaped a shipwreck. Historical documents, however, suggest that the building was a tribute to Roger's parents and a place of comfort for travelers and the poor. The first stone was laid on June 7, 1131, and the structure was consecrated in 1267.
Architecture and Works of Art
Il Cathedral of Cefalù it is a wonderful example of architecture Arab-Norman. The two Arab-style lateral towers and the Latin cross interior, supported by granite columns, are testimony to this.
Inside, the focal point is the central apse adorned with Byzantine mosaics which cover approximately 600 m². The figure of Christ Pantocrator dominates the apse, accompanied by a variety of sacred figures and religious symbols.

How to reach the Cathedral of Cefalù
The Duomo is located in the heart of Cefalù and easily reachable on foot. There piazza del Duomo it is accessible from the main street, Corso Ruggero.
Opening times and prices for visiting the Duomo
The Cathedral is open every day from 9:00 to 13:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00. Access is free, but to visit the towers or the museum area you need to purchase a ticket. Prices vary from €4 to €10 depending on the itinerary chosen.
