What to do in Francofonte
One of the most characteristic monuments of Francofonte it is certainly the Basilica of Sant'Antonio Abate, also known as Mother church. The Church is the place where the celebrations dedicated to the Patron saint of the town, Feast of Our Lady of the Snows.
Certainly worth a visit too Chadra Castle, which for centuries had the function of defending the village from the attack of enemies, of which unfortunately only the ruins remain today.
Francofonte, however, is also folklore and gastronomy, so the presence of visitors to the Tarot Festival, which obviously sees oranges of this type as great protagonists.
Getting around in Francofonte
Our advice is to visit the historic center on foot, to discover the streets of the village, but also the squares and churches. By doing so, you also have the opportunity to taste and savor all the typical dishes of the town directly from the producers of the area and in the inns that are found in the streets of the centre.
If you want to move, in complete autonomy, towards the outer areas, we advise you to move with your own means of transport (car, motorbike, bicycle, etc.).
How to get to Francofonte
Francofonte is easily reached by car or train: who travels by car, can take the Catania-Siracusa motorway, with the exit closest to the town, for Lentini-Carlentini just 18 km away; alternatively, the exit for Sortino from the A18 Messina-Catania is about 23 km from the town.
Who prefers to travel on the train, you can book your ticket up to the Ragusa or Catania Centrale stations, both about 36 km from Francofonte. At the station, you will find buses and shuttles waiting for you to take you to the centre.
