The history of Riposto, a town in the province of Catania, is full of events and has undergone a territorial and economic evolution that makes it very fascinating.

Il municipality of Riposto, located in the Metropolitan City of Catania, has almost 14 thousand inhabitants and is located on the Ionian Sea.

The town has a large and modern tourist port, also called Porto dell'Etna due to its position, which has contributed to the development and growth of the town which once, just as its name recalls, was organized to host commercial warehouses.

What to do in Riposto

Arriving in Riposto you can dedicate yourself to discovering the countless beauties of the village. In the center you will find the Saint Peter Basilica decreed Mother church of Riposto. The Basilica is in neoclassical style, has a Latin cross plan and three naves.

The oldest religious building in the town, however, is represented by the small one Shrine of Our Lady of the Letter. Absolutely not to be missed is its underground, with a salt water well and some crypts with numerous bones. 

Il Patron saint of Riposto è Saint Peter, the Basilica is dedicated to him every year on 29 June patronal feast with processions through the streets of the town and the characteristic Blessing of the Sea.

Another event not to be missed, if you are in town in that period, is the Fish Festival which is held on 23 and 24 July with tastings of fresh fish and typical local dishes.

How to get around Riposto

The small size of the municipality of Riposto will allow you to visit the center of the town in a few hours even with a walk, thanks also to the position of its main points of interest, all close to each other. To best enjoy the area you can always consider moving by means of transport, so as to move in total autonomy even between nearby municipalities, where you can find other villages waiting to be discovered.

How to get to Riposto

Riposto, in the Metropolitan City of Catania, can be easily reached by train, but also by car.

By train, you get off directly at Giarre Riposto station, which is located 1 km from the centre; if you prefer travel by car, take the A18 Messina-Catania and continue until the exit for Giarre, which is located approximately 4 km from the town.
