A lively and populous city, Ribera is the bearer of a fascinating history that unwinds for many centuries, as evidenced by the archaeological heritage and historical evidence.

Why visit Ribera

Ribera It is one of the main towns in the Agrigento area, rich in history and attractions. Fascinating architectures they frame the agricultural and pastoral traditions of the city founded in 1635 by the Prince of Paternò Luigi Guglielmo I Moncada.

La history of Ribera starts from far away, as evidenced by the historical finds and the civil and religious buildings, to which are added the ruins of the nearby Poggiodiana Castle and suggestive landscapes. 

In addition to the architectural beauties we also find real gastronomic excellences, such as the Ribera strawberry, with a unique and delicate taste.   

Things to do in Ribera

A city full of stimuli and ideas, in Ribera you will be spoiled for choice during your stay. Starting from the orthogonal plan of the city center, a seventeenth-century "trademark".

Among the places of greatest interest we find the Mother Church, very fascinating too home of the Duke of Bivonarichly frescoed. Of extraordinary interest is the ethnoanthropological museum of Ribera.

 Moving away from the center, here is theAnguilla Archaeological Area, where aancient necropolis, and the two towers of the Poggiodiana Castle.

Among the most important events taking place in the city we certainly find the Ribera DOP orange festival, an event that attracts many tourists. From a religious point of view, one of the most suggestive festivals is the Feast of San Giuseppe in Ribera.

Getting around in Ribera

Given the considerable size, in the city there is an urban mobility service on road, which serves the main urban areas, as well as the hamlets of Seccagrande, Pianagrande e Borgo Bonsignore. In fact, these are seaside and seaside areas of great value, with the latter also enjoying the Oriented Nature Reserve "Foce del Fiume Platani".

There are also good connections with the bus lines: there are direct connections for Palermo, Agrigento, Trapani, Sciacca and for neighboring towns. To move more freely, it is advisable to use a car.

How to get to Ribera

No longer served by the Castelvetrano - Porto Empedocle railway, which had a station in Ribera, the best way to reach the city is by car or with the Sicilian bus lines, via the state road 115, which connects it to Agrigento, Ragusa, Trapani e SIRACUSA.

Another important connecting road axis is the state road 386, which connects the Sicilian hinterland to the southern coast of the island. For those traveling by plane, the closest airports arePalermo Falcone e Borsellino Airport, about 130 km away, and theTrapani Vincenzo Florio Airport, just over 100 km.
