Why visit Modica

Modica, known as the city ​​of chocolate, is one of the most fascinating towns in Sicily, characterized by a wonderful Baroque style.

Like other cities in this area, it was razed to the ground by the earthquake of 1693, and was totally rebuilt in the XNUMXth century with the use of Modica stone.

Today it is a popular destination for Italian and foreign tourists also for its beaches of Marina di Modica, among the most fascinating in Sicily.

What to do in Modica

Modica hosts numerous monuments in the Baroque style, such as the great one Church of St. George which can be reached after a long flight of 250 steps.

How to move in Modica

To visit the main points of interest of Modica, being mainly concentrated in the Old Town, a normal one may suffice walk among the characteristic baroque streets of the city. However, there is a public transport service, with bus numbers which allow you to move easily to every point of Modica, thanks to which it will be possible to visit every landscape that the town has to offer.

How to get to Modica

You can get to Modica By plane through Catania Airport, widely served by the main airlines, but about 115km away, or from the closest Comiso Airport, although served by fewer airlines. From the port of Augusta and from the port of Catania it is possible to land by ship and then continue to Modica using the interregional buses. For those who prefer to move by car, you can get to Modica along the A18 and A19 motorways. There is no railway station in Modica.
