Giarre is located on the eastern coast of Sicily, between Etna and the Ionian Sea, sloping down towards the sea, in a breezy and panoramic position.
The city has one of the best viewpoints of the collapsing caldera Bove Valley, in which most of the lava flows of the eastern slope of the Etna volcano.
Things to do in Giarre
Definitely worth seeing and visiting in Giarre on an architectural level is the imposing Cathedral of Sant'Isidoro, the Cathedral was born on what was once a small seventeenth-century church.
Another important stage is the Fountain of Neptune and the War Memorial, The Fountain of Neptune is the work of the sculptor Anthony DiFrancesco, and was built at the beginning of the twentieth century, instead the Monument to the Fallen of Giarre in the World War I made in marble.

Giarre is a small town which in the past was a single city together with Riposto name Ionia. Today, only a railway separates them, making the two cities practically attached.
Getting around inside Giarre is very simple. The town has public car parks where you can leave your vehicle, from there it is possible to visit the town on foot.
How to get to Giarre
By car:
Taking the Catania-Messina (A18) motorway, exit at the Giarre tollbooth. Continue on the SS114 Orientale Sicula and follow the signs for the city centre.
On the train:
Get off at the Giarre-Riposto railway station (Messina-Siracusa line). Go up Corso Italia adjacent to the railway station to get to the city centre.
By plane:
Land at Catania airport (Fontana Rossa).
Reach Giarre by train or by car.
