Those who decide to visit Altavilla Milicia can enjoy wonderful surprises. Don't miss the three o'clock watchtowers located along the coast of Palermo. The most famous is the Mandre Tower, also known by the name of Norman Tower.
Another place not to be missed is undoubtedly the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Milicia. The Sanctuary stands at the entrance of the village right where the Belvedere, with a breathtaking panoramic view overlooking the Tyrrhenian coast. Inside the Sanctuary is kept the painting of the Madonna, patron saint of the country, which is celebrated with the patronal feast every year on 8 September. The party attracts many visitors for the characteristic rite of the angels.
Altavilla Milicia is also famous for its typical products, like the olive oil, the flavored sausage, the pasticciotto, a typical sweet, and the dog's bed, ancient and poor dish to which one is reserved every year festival which takes place during the feast of Saint Lucia, on 13 December.
Getting around in Altavilla Milicia
In Altavilla Milicia we don't find many means of public transport, even if there are some buses. In our opinion, the ideal is to move with your own means of transport (car, motorbike, bicycle, etc.). You can always decide to visit the center on foot, to discover the streets of the village, but also the squares and churches. How to get to Altavilla Milicia
Altavilla Milicia is located just 24 km from Palermo and can be easily reached by train and by car.
By train, get off at Bagheria station, just 6 km from the centre, continuing the journey by bus or shuttle; in the car, from the A19 Palermo-Catania, take the Altavilla Milicia exit directly.
