Pozzallo and surroundings: the most beautiful beaches

Sicily is one of the favorite holiday destinations especially during the summer season

In fact, the island, in addition to the immense historical and artistic heritage, preserves spectacular naturalistic places and many of these are located along the coast. In fact, think of places such as Mondello, in Palermo, the Scala dei Turchi in Realmonte, the Island of Favignana, San Vito Lo Capo and the Isola dei Conigli in Lampdeusa. However, those who want to enjoy the beautiful Sicilian sea but do not like too crowded places can opt for a holiday in Pozzallo, a town in the province of Ragusa famous for its port but which also boasts splendid beaches.

The most beautiful beaches of Pozzallo

Pozzallo is one fishing village about 35 km away from Ragusa and is appreciated for its coast and for the relaxed atmosphere that reigns in its streets, where there is no shortage of clubs and restaurants, a destination for young people and tourists, especially in summer.
Although its origins date back to Roman times, Pozzallo developed more in the XNUMXth century thanks to the Count of Modica, thanks to whom the Torre Cabrera: from that moment Pozzallo became one of the most important centers of the County of Modica, with a very dynamic independent port.

La coast of Pozzallo is a true naturalistic marvel and reaches as far as Ispica: here there are beaches of fine golden sand, often awarded with the coveted Blue Flag and perfect for family bathing, being largely sheltered from the winds and currents, for exception of the Black Stones Beach. It is a main beach of Pozzallo, very long and watched over by the remains of a Saracen watchtower: substantially it runs along the entire promenade of Pozzallo, well-kept, green and above all far from traffic: the Spiaggia delle Pietre Nere has many bathing establishments, as well as to accommodation facilities and restaurants that will make the day on the beach comfortable and relaxing. The seabed is shallow and children can splash around in relative safety in the clear waters that bathe the beach.
Then there are the First and Second Slide beach, slightly further from the center of Pozzallo, being close to Santa Maria del Focallo, a much less crowded area, full of soft sand dunes and thick Mediterranean scrub.

Pozzallo: beaches and more

Then there is among the most beautiful beaches of Pozzallo Lido Green Island, whose advantage is the presence of a green area near the beach, perfect for those who, in addition to taking a dip in the sea, want to relax with a nice picnic in nature. In this regard, among the typical foods of Pozzallo to be enjoyed sitting on the grass or on the sand, there are fish-based couscous, marinated salmon with mozzarella in puff pastry, cold rice with pistachio and salmon and the exquisite savoiarda alla pozzalese (a salad made with potatoes and octopus).

Then one cannot forget the Raganzino Beach, located just behind the Castle of Martino: the seabed is very shallow for meters and meters, with the presence of black volcanic rocks that many use to dive into the sea.

Le beaches of Pozzallo they are an opportunity to also discover the inhabited center of the village, which revolves around the Cabrera Tower, built in the 400th century to defend the coast from Turkish pirates. The coast of Pozzallo in fact had a so-called magazine, that is, a set of warehouses where grain was kept, a precious commodity to be protected at all costs from raiders. On the terrace of the tower there were cannons, while the soldiers and knights stopped inside the tower, in whose rooms the Cabrero family also stayed. A wooden platform surrounds the tower, allowing everyone to admire it: the surrounding rocks recall the sad practice that in the past those condemned to death suffered, chained to the rocks waiting to drown at high tide.
Piazza della Rimembranza is the liveliest and most lively heart of Pozzallo, with its large spaces, palm trees and the surrounding Art Nouveau buildings, built between the 900th and XNUMXth centuries: the Town Hall itself, built in the early XNUMXs and located away from the square, it is an Art Nouveau building, flanked by a luxuriant garden dotted with fig trees, oleanders and palm trees.

Pozzallo is the perfect destination for you if you are looking for a relaxing place away from mass tourism to enjoy the splendid Sicilian sea, without giving up a full-immersion in the most ancient history of the place.
