In the month of August, under the splendid Sicilian summer sun, a different theme is chosen every year and everyone can participate to stage it among the excavations. The origins of the Morgantina event are revived

This is precisely the profound meaning behind Morgantina Rivive, a cultural event which combines art, theatre, history with the passion of the public, capable of bringing ancient glories back to life.
The activities, as well as the stage costumes, are carefully designed to recall the stories of the past every year: on the scenes ofancient theatre, over the years, have revised the lightOdyssey and many others legends of Greek mythology.

Now in its XNUMXth edition, this incredible artistic event gives its participants a truly unique emotion every summer, to the creation of which the towns in the area dedicate themselves with enthusiasm.
The Morgantina Rivive event is a real journey into history, which leaves nothing out: the artistic event will also be an opportunity to taste some special dishes inspired by mythology, such as the Cake of the Gods.

Where it takes place Morgantina lives again

For two days the territory of the archaeological site is transformed intoancient Hellenic Greece, while remaining in Italy in the XNUMXst century: in Morgantina, in the Free Municipal Consortium of Enna, near Aidone in Sicily the mythical representation takes place. In ancient times, this area was an important communication route between the eastern coast of Sicily and the hinterland. The area remained hidden until the middle of the last century, when thanks to the discovery of some bronze coins, it was possible to bring to light this wonderful site in the heart of Sicily.

What to do during the event Morgantina lives again

The activities to do during Morgantina Rivive are truly numerous, because the event is at the same time a historical re-enactment, theatrical performance, culinary event and of course guaranteed fun for all history and archeology enthusiasts.

The first thing visitors can do is take part in the free guided tour, which will accompany tourists divided into groups through the remains of theancient acropolis, allowing you to see a archaeological site among the most important on the island.
During the visit, participants will also have the opportunity to attend the many theatrical events that take place in various points of the site.
Adults and children take part in the event, capable of truly involving everyone due to the intensity of the show and the attention to detail. You will be able to admire faithfully reproduced clothes, utensils and foods, allowing yourself to be involved in the magic of the place.
The event lasts 2 days, with variable dates, but generally takes place in the first week of August and is outdoors, so you can also enjoy the natural spectacle of the surroundings.

If you want to extend your stay, there are also other activities to do near the archaeological site, such as visit Aidone, less than 5 km away, with its churches and the Castellaccio, or stroll along the banks of the Lake Ogliastro, which is about 18 km away. The same distance then separates Morgantina from the beautiful one Cathedral of Santa Maria delle Vittorie in Piazza Armerina.
Furthermore, near the archaeological site, there are many restaurants where you can taste local specialities, if you want to rest with gusto.

How to get to the archaeological site of Morgantina

Morgantina can be reached by car or train from the main cities of Sicily.
By car, from Palermo, take the A19 towards Enna, to continue until Aidone.
Those traveling by train can reach Aidone by getting off at Caltanissetta Centrale station and then using private buses and shuttles to get to the centre.
From Catania and Palermo there are also bus services that lead directly to the archaeological site.
