Although the Church is built in Late Gothic style , there are still no reliable sources on the date of construction of the Mother Church of Vizzini; however it can be said with greater certainty that the sacred building that can be admired today in the heart of the town was built on the ruins of a Benedictine convent pre-existing and of the ancient Casa Giuratoria.

In 1600, the Parish was enlarged with the annexation of the Baptistery and the construction of the North Gate, while the Altar dedicated to San Biagio was added to the Church. Towards the end of the century, however, the building was heavily damaged by an earthquake, which in 1693 partially destroyed the church and many other buildings in Sicily. Today in fact, you can see how the structure is present architectural overlaps of different eras.

Some architectural elements of the structure and many of the decorations inside the Parish of San Gregorio Magno in Vizzini are Baroque style ; canvases, sacred furnishings, statues and other ornaments of the Church were made in the following centuries, up to the twentieth century.
