Many celebrations are dedicated to His Majesty Arancino, including the Arancino festival in Assoro, a town located in the province of Enna which has just under five thousand inhabitants.
The arancino is nothing more than a cone or a ball of rice filled with meat sauce, peas and much more. Once formed, it is breaded and fried.
It is a typical Sicilian gastronomic delight which is really difficult to resist.

What to do during the Arancino Festival

In addition to being tempted by the numerous variations of one of Sicily's most famous dishes, during the Arancino Festival in Assoro it is possible to attend singing performances and take part in guided tours aimed at making known the most beautiful monuments of the town.
The latter could therefore represent an excellent opportunity to visit the Church and convent of the angels, Assoro Castle , Basilica of San Leone.
The Church and the Convent of the Angels is a beautiful complex built by the Franciscan Fathers in 1622, who incorporated the already present Church of Santa Margherita.
Over the centuries it has served as a library, district prison, orphanage and boarding school. Inside there are several Baroque style paintings.
The Castle of Assoro, also known as the Castle of Valguarnera, is a construction dating back to the Norman era and of which only the ruins remain which testify to its grandeur, including the trapezoidal plan to adapt to the irregularity of the rocky ground and one of the four lookout towers.
Speaking instead of the Basilica of San Leone or Mother Church, it is one of the most beautiful attractions in Sicily, so much so that it was declared a National Monument in 1933.
