The Sicilian summer in month of September closes with Pistachio Festival in Raffadali, in the Free Municipal Consortium of Agrigento.

The town, known throughout Sicily and also outside the island for its green pistachios, celebrates every year the typical local product with a three-day festival, inviting inhabitants of the village and visitors to taste the pistachios and the many gastronomic products that are prepared with pistachio, to make this excellent product even more known.

At the stand set up in the village, then, at the Raffadali Pistachio Festival you will find sweets, ice creams, first and second courses seasoned with the tasty fruit, but also real preparations, such as fresh pasta mixed with pistachio flour. Pesto, sausage and pistachio mortadella are just some of the delicacies that have become traditional at the festival.

Every year in Raffadali on the occasion of the festival, over 50 people gather, an event not to be missed to end your summer in Sicily on a high note.

The history of the Pistachio Festival in Raffadali

In the village you can also visit many other churches, convents and places of worship; continuing your walk through the center of Raffadali, you will meet Prince Palace, former residence of the Montapertura family, the lords of the area and the City Palacewhere the Town Hall is located.

If you also want to explore the surroundings of Raffadali, about 4 km to the south, you will find Cozzo Busone, a necropolis dating back to the Copper Age, while continuing south you can also reach Agrigento and the sea.

In the city, don't miss the Cathedral of San Gerlando and the many churches in the center, while on the sea, you can reach the splendid Scala dei Turchi.

How to get to the Pistachio Festival in Raffadali

Raffadali, in the Free Municipal Consortium of Agrigento, is located at 420 meters above sea level. To reach the town, you can travel by car or train.

Who prefers the car, can be reached via the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo, taking the exit for Castelvetrano and continuing towards Agrigento; who comes instead on the train, will have to get off at Agrigento Central Station, which is about 11 km from the town and then continue the journey by bus or shuttle to the centre.
