With such a product, the local gastronomy has always created various typical recipes of the area, so it should not be surprising if in the end it was decided to organize an event dedicated to it in honor of the melon. During the event, however, much more is also offered to the participants, especially as regards thefood and wine el 'local crafts, two very typical aspects of these areas.

The melon festival in Gibellina was born out of the will of two associations, Destinazione Gibellina and Cuore del Belice, who wanted an event dedicated to one of the most characteristic products of the place. The first edition was held in 2014 and it was a real gamble, won on all fronts given that in subsequent editions the number of participants increased significantly. Today the event aims to make known not only the Gibellina melon but also other food and wine products, such as wines from local wineries, which can exploit the same fertile land on which the fruit also grows.

The melon festival in Gibellina is not an appointment linked to any religious celebration but is now a fixed appointment in the village's summer. Precisely for this reason, its date is never fixed but varies from year to year, even if it is usually always organized in the second half of August, after the 20th.

Where the melon festival takes place in Gibellina

The Yellow Night involves the whole village of Gibellina because it is not just a gastronomic appointment but it is also an important opportunity to introduce all visitors to the most characteristic aspects of the local culture. Precisely for this reason, every corner of the village is involved in the celebrations, with stands and stages for the events.

What to do during the event

The event known as the Yellow Night has food in general and the melon in particular as its main protagonist. It is not difficult to imagine, therefore, that the heart of the party is represented by the food and wine stands which offer not only natural melon but also many other typical recipes that use it. In fact, risottos, pasta dishes but also main courses and side dishes are prepared on the basis of this sweet fruit, as well as obviously street food which involves the preparation of special recipes such as rice balls with yellow melon and speck.

Visitors can also participate in various events during the event, such as i cooking show and guided tours to learn more about the magical village of Gibellina. Starting with a visit to ruins of the old Gibellina where, thanks to the artist Alberto Burri, one of the most impressive works of land art European, the Cretto di Burri. For lovers of history and culture, then there is the Museum of Mediterranean Textures, where it is possible not only to learn about the life stories of ancient Sicily, but also to visit the exhibition of the works that are part of Corrao's youthful collection.

How to get to Gibellina

Who wants to reach Gibellina, in province of Trapani, and take part in the Yellow Night, will be able to move easily with theauto.
It is in fact possible to reach the town both from Palermo and from Trapani by taking the A29 and then continuing on the SS115 to your destination.
There is also an alternative means which is the train: Gibellina has its own station which is that of Salemi-Gibellina and which is located on the local line which connects Alcamo Diramazione to Trapani, via Castelvetrano. Finally, both from Trapani and Palermo it is possible to reach your destination also with a local bus offered by the AST company.
