In 1968 the Municipality of Terrasini, in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, began to take an interest in the creation of the Capo Rama Oriented Nature Reserve in Terrasini, to protect the great naturalistic value of this area, populated by numerous animal and plant species. Subsequently, the European Union also took an interest in safeguarding this precious environment between Capo Rama and its surroundings, establishing precise directives for the and environmental protection .

The most recent regulations that establish how to best manage the magnificent protected green area currently date back to the provisions of June 2000.

Today at the Capo Rama Oriented Nature Reserve in Terrasini it is possible to participate in guided tours as a group, but also visit the Reserve freely.

The body that deals with the management of the entire Reserve is the WWF Italy .

The conformation of the Capo Rama Nature Reserve in Terrasini and what it holds

The area of ​​the Capo Rama Oriented Nature Reserve in Terrasini it extends for approx 57 hectares , with a great variety of natural environments such as the Capo Rama promontory which overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea , the Grotta dei Nassi and Cala Porro, the cliffs overlooking the sea. The whole area is divided into zone A and zone B.

The rocks that make up the cliffs, cliffs and landing places of the Reserve are of very ancient origin, in fact the oldest conformations date back to about 260 million years ago and today they are true works of art.

The flora that populates the Reserve is mainly composed of Mediterranean scrub , with alternating low vegetation and flowers from wallflower to small daisies. Among the animals that can be seen in the protected area we point out the splendid fox and the agile wild rabbit, as well as birds such as kingfishers, warblers and swifts.

Here you will find a splendid view of the Gulf of Castellammare and then, of course, the main monuments of the historic centre, such as the Duomo and its beautiful square full of clubs, Cataldi Palace with the headquarters of Municipal Library and Villa Fassini , an example of Art Nouveau architecture, the work of the architect Ernesto Basile.

In the center there are also several churches to visit, while along the coast you will come across the Watchtowers, monuments to the past of Terrasini and in general of all the coastal towns of Sicily: here the most famous is the Dawn Tower , but also look for the Tower of Capo Rama, Torre Toleda and the Tower of Contrada San Cataldo. The Capo Rama Tower is located in what is called zone A in the Capo Rama Oriented Nature Reserve in Terrasini, in viale dei Pini, right on the cliff overlooking the sea.

From Terrasini, where there are the splendid beaches of Cala Rossa and Praiola, it is also possible to easily reach the capital of Sicily, to discover a whole other sea of ​​beauties, just 34 km away.
