serradifalco, Free Municipal Consortium of Caltanissetta, year Domini 2000: the Oriented Nature Reserve of Lake Soprano. A protected area of ​​modest size, but aimed at protecting and enhancing one of the most fascinating natural landscapes in the area, as well as the natural habitat of numerous animal species.

Il Soprano lake, of natural origins, appears at the beginning of the twentieth century, when the continuous erosion of the waters caused the sinking of the rocks on the surface: the current Lake Soprano was part of a larger water complex, made up of three basins.

Today the Reserve is controlled and protected according to the current provisions of the law, which operate for the preservation and enhancement of the territory.

The conformation of the Soprano Lake Nature Reserve

The Soprano Lake Nature Reserve extends for about 59 hectares, 15 of which are occupied by the medium water basin of the Soprano Lake. Initially, the lake occupied the median of the three basins present in the area, at about 450 meters above sea level

Lake Soprano, at its lowest point, reaches a depth of 2 meters and numerous fish species live in these waters. The animals that populate the reserve, including fish and birds, are many: the river nightingale, the reed warbler, the little bittern, the carp and the perch, are some of the species that can be observed in the area.

What to do in the Soprano Lake Nature Reserve and in the surroundings of Serradifalco

The Soprano Lake Nature Reserve, established to enhance the beautiful area in which the lake is located, will give you the opportunity to make splendid and relaxing walks in nature, invigorating and enthralling walks mountain bike excursions, along the paths that lead to the lake. Here it can be done too birdwatching or beautiful naturalistic photographs, far from civilization.

Far away, but not too far away: the distance between the reserve and the town, Serradifalco, is really minimal, about a kilometre, just enough to give you the necessary detachment to immerse yourself in total relaxation and then easily return to the town, to admire the beauties of the village.

Beautiful churches, like the Mother Church , Church of San Francesco di Paola, almost all of Baroque or Neoclassical style, await you in the village; The Duke's Palace and Palazzo Barone Square are among the oldest and most beautiful civil architectures in the centre, while the new and modern is the Antonio De Curtis Theater, cultural pole of the village, where in addition to theatrical performances, exhibitions, concerts and cultural events are often set up.

In addition to Villa Comunale and Remembrance Park, which testify to the importance of green areas for the inhabitants of the centre, there are also many monuments of our times in the town, such as the one dedicated to all the victims of terrorism or the one dedicated to the Blessed Father John XXIII.

Moving away from the town a little, you can reach the Contrada Grottadacqua, a suggestive place for its natural beauty and for the archaeological remains that can be visited in the area, dating back to the Bronze Age.

The centers to be reached around Lake Soprano are those of Montedoro, Milena and Sutera, very close to the west, or the city of Caltanissetta just 19 km to the east. In this area, you will find excellent restaurants and farms everywhere, thanks to which you can taste all the flavors of the province: fresh egg pasta, pizza with onions and anchovies, wild rabbit and almond for dessert, all accompanied by a good glass of Nero d'Avola.

How to get to the Soprano Lake Nature Reserve

The Soprano Lake Nature Reserve is about 950 meters from the center of Serradifalco, in the province of Caltanissetta.

To get to the village, choose the car or the train: by car, you arrive via the A19 Palermo-Catania, taking the exit for Caltanissetta, while on the train get off at Caltanissetta Central Station and continue the journey by bus or shuttle.
