Il Living Nativity of Agira It is one of the Christmas events most interesting of Sicily, where you have the opportunity to admire a unique representation of Birth of Baby Jesus, with numerous activities that are able to attract more and more participants. The Living Nativity of Agira is a tradition that has been repeated annually since 1989, presenting, with each new edition, ever more exciting contents, so as to best express the folkloristic essence of the city of Agira.

When the Living Nativity of Agira takes place

The Living Nativity of Agira takes place in a single day, extending from 24th December until the early hours of Christmas day, unlike what happens with the other Living Nativity Scenes which last for a longer period. This is due to the fact that the Living Nativity of Agira is by no means static and changes from hour to hour with new scenographic representations that recall the main moments of the birth of the Child Jesus.

Where the Living Nativity of Agira takes place

The place that houses the Living Nativity of Agira is the monumental Agira Castle, a ruin of an ancient fortress whose history is well rooted in time, so much so that a part of it is even traced back to the Sicani, among the first inhabitants of Sicily, who built it and made it one of the most important military centers ever in the history of Agira. In addition to the Agira Castle area, its surrounding area is also involved in the creation of the Agira Living Nativity Scene, in such a way as to recreate a vast setting that perfectly evokes the customs of the past, mixing them with local traditions.
