For everyone, today, is the Magnisi peninsula, a fascinating area located in the easternmost part of Priolo Gargallo, right on the sea, from which you can enjoy a wonderful panorama. History of the Magnisi Peninsula in Priolo Gargallo

The origins on the birth of Thapsos can be traced back to the very early Bronze Age, whose history continued uninterrupted until theVIII century BC During that period the premieres were recorded Greek colonizations, with several Hellenic groups finding the Magnisi Peninsula the perfect place to start a thriving village.

From the outset, Thapsos was a thriving business shopping center, thanks to its geographical position, which made this town easy to reach from any boat that passed through the Mediterranean Sea.
Several testimonies of Thapsos have come down to the present day thanks to the historian Thucydides, which speaks of this area as being among the busiest at the time. The Magnisi Peninsula was also important in the Peloponnesian War, as the Greek army was stationed in these parts before launching the offensive towards Syracuse.

Thapsos epilogue apparently occurred following the death of lamis, who was one of the leaders of the colonial expedition. The residents also decided to move due to other problems, such as the lack of water which made it difficult to stay. From the Magnisi Peninsula, therefore, the colony moved a little, founding Megara Iblea.

With the Highway 114 , European Route 45 you can get to Priolo Gargallo both with your own vehicle and with the numerous public transports that connect the many Sicilian towns, such as the buses of Sicilian Transport Company AST.

If you prefer to travel by train, you can arrive directly at Priolo – Melilli railway station, able to bring you very close to the many Priolese points of interest.
With the plane you can land atCatania Fontanarossa Airport, located 50 km from the center of Priolo Gargallo.
