History of Jalari Museum Park

The Park Museum in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto is located 4,5 km from the center of the Sicilian town on the Peloritani mountains and covers an area of 35 hectares. This Museum Park was born from an idea of the Pietrini and Giorgianni families who continued this project for over 30 years.
The Arabic name Jalari is also the name of the district in which it is located and translates to glittering stone, the same one used for its creation.

One of the creators of this park decided to use local stone as a raw material in order to suggest the rediscovery of local resources with the aim of harmonizing the buildings with the surrounding environment, thus creating environmentally friendly structures that fit perfectly into the existing context.

The Parco Museo in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto includes over 15.000 objects inserted in 42 artisan workshops, with the aim of faithfully recreating the atmosphere and life of the past, in which all things are as if contextualized with those that it was possible to find in the shops that animated life in the past.

Walking along the avenues, you can admire hundreds of sculptures and many stone fountains that keep visitors company in a journey to rediscover their identity.
Jalari should not be considered a geographical place or a physical structure, but rather a real philosophy of life.
Observing it from this point of view, everyone will be able to grasp the versatility and depth of the messages that reach them crossing the various avenues.

Architecture and works of art present

Inside the Jalari Park Museum, 42 artisan workshops have been built in a faithful way where over fifteen thousand objects and original finds are collected which, in many cases, are truly unique pieces that have found the right exhibition space where they are able to tell their story.

In the houses built in stone there are also workshops as they once were and visitors can take a step back in time, imagining those objects used by the expert hands of skilled craftsmen and savoring the atmosphere of a real workshop of many years does.
To help the visitor in his most total involvement, inside the park there is a library which collects documents and audiovisual material attributable to ethnography which can also be used for educational purposes.

The collection of the Park Museum of Barcellona Pozzo di Gozzo is also completed by an extensive intangible heritage represented by an exhaustive collection of proverbs of the past and the annual implementation of folkloristic events and local festivals.

The park is based on the principles of organic agriculture and bio-architecture which allows you to rediscover the resources of the territory in which it is located. One can be defined lush nature what the park offers to all its visitors, with the many Mediterranean plants that they fill the air with natural scents.

If only you think the fraction of Maloto, in the vicinity of Soglio lace, about thirty years ago it presented an arid territory due to the lack of water and which only after the appropriate drilling solved its endemic problem thanks to us at the Jalari Museum Park in Barcellona Pozzo di Gozzo, we cannot help but be aware of it proud and satisfied.
Before starting the park project, the territory had only a few rows of native oaks which were accompanied by the addition of about forty thousand plants, you can see from the effort we have made over many years of work.
