In the small but characteristic community of Palazzolo Acreide in Province of Syracuse there are so many scenic and cultural beauties that are absolutely worth visiting such as Judica Palace.

Palazzo Judica in Palazzolo Acreide

In the splendid province of Syracuse and in particular in the municipality of Palazzolo Acreide, there are many ideas for organizing a splendid stay in a small town characterized by numerous examples of Baroque-style monuments. In the heart of the historic center and in particular along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the marvelous Palazzo Judica stands out.
This is a classic example baroque palace, probably built around the mid-eighteenth century and repeatedly subjected to restructuring activities so much so that it is possible to appreciate a partly Baroque style and partly with elements of the Liberty one.
The building is private because it belongs to the same name judica family which, moreover, often characterized the events of the twentieth century and of the centuries preceding Palazzolo Acreide given the enormous wealth it possessed.
As mentioned, the origins date back to the eighteenth century, a period in which the construction work was started at the behest of Baron Gabriele Judica remembered with affection by the community for being a farsighted intellectual also because he did not hesitate to question his assets to take care of the excavations in the archaeological area.
In addition to a style dating back to the late Baroque, this building is particular because it is divided into three vertical elements separated by a large space between them and the same happened horizontally with the ground floor and the two upper floors.

The main characteristics of Palazzo Judica

The facade of Palazzo Judica is certainly striking for its beauty and decorations in the late Baroque style, but there are also very interesting structural elements starting from the geometric figures that are repeated in all areas.
In the internal part there is an elegant and spacious courtyard onto which all the rooms of the building look out through an incredible loggia. The various rooms have been furnished with elements of various kinds such as the frescoes and decorative stuccos that were used a lot in Italy and above all in Sicily.
Although currently owned by the heirs of the Judica family, the palace is made available for the organization of cultural events.

What to see in Palazzolo Acreide

Acreid it has about 8 inhabitants and is famous for being one town of Greek origins in which there are still several palaces and monuments built in the late Sicilian Baroque style. In short, there is no shortage of ideas for those who want to organize a trip to discover above all Churches recognized by Unesco as World Heritage Site.
First, the gaze must be turned to the wonderful Basilica of San Paolo located in the homonymous square in the most characteristic part of the city. The basilica was consecrated in 1828 while the construction began in 1721. The plan is the classic one with three naves divided by the various pillars present with the central one, obviously more important not only for the reserved space.
The other Church recognized by Unesco is the Basilica of St. Sebastian. It was roughly built in the same period and has an important facade, almost triangular in shape with subdivision in the internal part with the three naves, in the periods of January and August the San Sebastian Festival.
There are obviously many other proposals to take into consideration for those who choose Palazzolo Acreide like the Gabriele Judica archaeological museum, Greek Theatre or The Santoni that is, a rock sanctuary dating back to ancient times.
