As regards the origins of the Palazzo Baronale De Maria, there is not much information, although some historians affirm that it was built at the very moment in which the feudal system in this part of Sicily.

The first to live in this building were the members of the Lanza family in 1360, one of the most powerful and influential of the time, whose members stood out on the Sicilian political and economic scene for several centuries.

The last to use this building as a residence were the De Marias, from which the current name of the building derives. These were the Barons of Basicò, who ruled this Sicilian medieval village from 1766 until 1812.

The Baronial Palace De Maria is made up of 3 very large floors, in which several rooms alternate. If once these premises were used by the lord who governed Basicò and his family, today they house an important library in which over 1000 historical volumes are preserved.

Where the warehouses once stood, today you can enter the Museum of Arts and Traditions of Basicò, where you can admire all the tools and implements of the ancients Sicilian craftsmen, as well as a photographic exhibition that will show you how the workshops of the Sicilian master craftsmen.

Palazzo Barona De Maria is very easy to reach once you arrive in Basicò, as it is located in a well-served area of ​​the village. You can get to Basicò in different ways, starting from Provincial Road 114 and from Highway 110, also crossed by the buses of Azienda Siciliana Trasporti AST.

La Falcone railway station is located about 10 km away, perfect if you travel by regional train, while if you are forced to use planes to get to Sicily, 110 km from Basicò is theCatania Fontanarossa Airport, widely served by the most important national and international airlines.
