The Sicilian territory has always been a mine of historical artifacts given that different dominations have followed one another here such as the Greek, Roman and Arab ones. Precisely for this reason it should come as no surprise that there are several archaeological museums, among which certainly the one in Prizzi stands out, where you can admire objects of common and non-common use, belonging to different eras. Here, then, is the main information to reach the Archaeological museum of Prizzi and what not to miss inside.

History of the archaeological museum of Prizzi

The archaeological museum of Prizzi includes historical finds from different eras and is internally divided into three main sections: one is dedicated to archaeological finds, one to those paleontological and finally the last ai minerals. The first section is populated with everything that was found during the excavations that were carried out in the Horse Mountain site: among the most beautiful pieces there are two silver diadems dating back to the XNUMXth century BC In the section dedicated to paleontology, however, there are fossil which come not only from Prizzi but also from other areas of Sicily and tell of the different geological eras that the territory has gone through. Finally, in the minerals section there are many specimens that have also been recovered in the mines of Sardinia. Inside the museum there is a permanent collection but some temporary exhibitions are also organised.

The architecture and any works of art present in the archaeological museum of Prizzi

The archaeological museum of Prizzi was strongly desired by the Municipality of Prizzi which in 1999 obtained the green light from the Superintendence of cultural heritage, section of Palermo. Its actual inauguration, however, was only held in May 2000. Most of the materials that are present inside the museum were found in the archaeological sites that are located in the immediate vicinity of the town, areas that for years have been plundered by thieves of historical artifacts. Precisely for this reason the Municipality has committed itself to the establishment of a museum dedicated to archeology which could exhibit what had been saved from the neglect of time and man. As for the sections dedicated to mineralogy and paleontology, they are the fruit of the generous donation of theengineer Vincenzo Canzoneri which secured most of the exhibits on display.

What you can do around the archaeological museum of Prizzi

After a visit to the archaeological museum of Prizzi it is possible to take advantage of the rest of the time available to discover something more about the historic village. One of the jewels that the center offers is certainly represented by the mother church which was built around the sixteenth century and which houses both the statue of the Archangel San Michele and that of St. George, which it is the patron saint of the country. Another place of worship that deserves a visit is the Church of the Crucifix which, however, was built in 1670. From the point of view of civil architecture, one of the most representative monuments is the Watchtower, which was built in 745 to protect the village from Arab attacks. The historic center of Prizzi is also famous for the numerous murals that adorn the houses of the village, some of them built as early as the XNUMXs. Finally, for nature lovers, the neighbor is worth mentioning Lake Raia and natural reserves di Mount Carcaci need Palazzo Adriano and the Sosio Valley.
