Positioned within a valley just below Colle Milocca and framed by a scenic forest that makes it precious, the town of Castelbuono is known for the event of theInfiorata of Castelbuono which every year attracts thousands of tourists solicited by this event.

Description of the Infiorata of Castelbuono

The infiorata of Castelbuono takes place during an entire weekend which begins on Friday with the realization of the various works that will make up the paintings that will wind throughout the central via Sant'Anna. THE infioratory masters, assisted by school groups, have the task of conceiving and materially creating the floral carpet which is the subject of the Infiorata of Castelbuono, also continuing throughout the night to compose the scenography made up of twenty sketches that will come to life little by little.
These will be made with different techniques and the colors that will compose them will be made up of carnation and gerbera petals considered as the basis of their work and which will be accompanied by soil, lavender, olive trees, ears of wheat but also coffee beans, sunflower seeds, dried legumes and so on which will prove to be essential for creating shades of various intensities.

The next day, i.e. Saturday, there are several Folk groups including those of sandieratori and still others who, attracted by the event, participate in the Infiorata of Castelbuono to parade on Sunday along the entire medieval-style historic center and to perform in front of the public. During the three days, they are organized cultural events, exhibitions, shows and a sort of market is held with various stands offering local food products and also offering tastings.

The Infiorata of Castelbuono, even if it is a rather recent event born at the beginning of the XNUMXs, is certainly one of the most important tourist events in all of Sicily and a significant appointment for all the Historical Groups and Folklore Groups of the island who participate showing off the their costumes and exhibiting the banner of their city.
It is a journey back in time where the Noble Houses that governed various Sicilian fiefdoms are highlighted, making their history. The parade held on the last day traditionally ends in the very central location Piazza Castello where each group that has joined the event will be able to perform in front of thousands of people.

The Infiorata is organized by the Cultural Association Promomadonie Sicilia of Castelbuono, with the prestigious patronage of the Municipality of Castelbuono.

The infiorata takes place along the Via Sant'Anna with the reproduction and preparation of the floral sketches, edited by the Infioratori, the Associations and the schools of Castelbuono.

What to do during the Castelbuono Infiorata

You can take advantage of the Infiorata di Castelbuono to visit the Castle of Ventimiglia wanted by Count Francesco I Ventimiglia and located on the hill of San Pietro, also seat of the Civic Museum of Castelbuono; the fourteenth century Church Maria SS. By car:, from Palermo take the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway to Buonfornello and continue on State Road 286 to your destination.
From Messina, take the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, continue on the SS 113 up to the crossroads for Castelbuono and continue on State Road 286 to your destination.
From Catania, take the A19 Catania-Palermo motorway to the Buonfornello exit in the direction of the A20 Messina motorway and continue on State Road 286 to your destination.
