THEfloral display in Calatafimi is a tradition of celebrations on the occasion of Corpus Christi. It is the boys of the village who reach the roof of the Church of San Michele on the night before the Festival: here, they will weave a floral braid, which will then be exhibited in Corso Garibaldi.

In the following days, however, the Church of San Michele becomes the exhibition center of the great Corpus Christi carpet, a real collective artistic work, made up of thousands and thousands of colored sawdust shavings, arranged on a rectangular base (8 meters by 5), to represent Corpus Domini.

The story linked to the Infiorata in Calatafimi

The infiorata in Calatafimi was born after the Second World War, becoming a tradition that, alongside that of the Corpus Domini carpet, reaches the new generations.

To give life to these traditions was Monsignor Diego Taranto, inspired by the ancient celebrations for the Feast of San Michele Arcangelo.
The carpet was originally made with natural petals, but today, to make the event sustainable, the volunteers prefer to use colored sawdust.
In the seventies the celebrations of Corpus Domini with the Infiorata in Calatafimi suffered a setback, to come back into vogue in 2007 and since 2017 the Infiorata carpet has also been exhibited in the Church of San Giuliano.

When does the Infiorata take place in Calatafimi

The Infiorata in Calatafimi is a noble festival, which follows the Corpus Domini festival. This is celebrated on the Sunday following the Feast of the Holy Trinity, after Pentecost.

At the end of the Solemn Mass at 18:00, the braid of flowers is exhibited in the Church, while the carpet in San Michele is exhibited in the following days, from 9:30 to 12:30 and from 16:00 to 20:00; finally, at the Church of San Giuliano, it will be possible to contemplate the carpet until September.

In the village, the ancient medieval walls of the village are visible which, although in ruins, are still very fascinating today; finally, if you love visiting museums, in Calatafimi you will find the Garibaldi House-Museum and Ethno-anthropological Museum.

In Calatafimi also there kitchen is part of the cultural heritage of the village: the flavors to try absolutely once you get to the center are those of the maccheroni (the so-called busiate) with pork sauce, della Porchetta local and of the caciotta of the Elymians. Even Sicilian fruit will surprise you with its unique taste, such as that ofOvallet orange, a 0 km fruit that is picked in the Calatafimi countryside, just like i Bastard, the flowers of the I'm from India. Close the meal with Calatafimi cassatelle, which can be found both in pastry shops and in restaurants.

How it is possible to reach the Infiorata in Calatafimi

Calatafimi Segesta is located in the province of Trapani and can be easily reached by car or train.

Travelers arriving in the car, they can take the A29 Palermo-Trapani and take the exit for Segesta, then continuing towards the village; on the train, getting off at Castelvetrano Station you can take the bus or the direct shuttle to the center (about 27 km).
