Every year, the arrival of Spring is greeted in Sicily, in Aci Bonaccorsi, with a party that involves the whole town in province of Catania, where even neighbors and tourists are warmly welcomed, among the traditional open-air stalls, musical performances, the flower market and many other initiatives dedicated to adults and children, who pour into the square and streets to celebrate the arrival of the beautiful season.

The event usually takes place in the month of May and lasts several days, during which the town is full of events at any time of the day: the temperature is perfect for a walk outdoors, to taste the typical Sicilian products found in plenty at the stalls or to take the children to the playground, with inflatables set up just for the occasion.

The history of the spring festival in Aci Bonaccorsi

The Spring Festival is a very ancient celebration, which paid homage to the arrival of the good season to propitiate the crops with offerings to the deities and is still strongly linked to rural communities around the world today.

In more recent times, the symbol of spring rebirth is celebrated with events and festivals which in our country also involve small and ancient communities such as Aci Bonaccorsi, which arose around the fifteenth century.

The Spring Festival as we know it today no longer contemplates sacrifices to Pagan gods, but offers its visitors a great abundance of food, entertainment, events.

From the outset, towards the end of the 80s, Aci Bonaccorsi welcomes Spring with freshly prepared sweets and cottage cheeses, live music, typical products, to which over the years have been added artistic manifestations such as painting and photography competitions, group games and fashion shows: every year the warm season is greeted by the festive population, who participate in ever new initiatives and rejoice together: from tastings of local cheeses, to theatrical performances, up to entertainment for children, the watchword at Aci Bonaccorsi is abundance.

The opening date of the Festival, linked to the Mother's Day, reminds participants of the joy of life.

When the spring festival takes place in Aci Bonaccorsi

The Spring Festival usually takes place in the month of May and lasts about 5 days, but the exact dates of the event are subject to change from year to year: the Spring Festival falls in conjunction with Mother's Day, every second Sunday in May.

On holidays, the town wakes up early and the first installations can already be admired from 8.30 in the morning, with the flower market that opens the holiday; during the day the event continues with activities, competitions and awards, and then ends around 21.00 with tastings to which all participants are invited.

Where the spring festival takes place in Aci Bonaccorsi

Aci Bonaccorsi is located in Sicily, in the province of Catania, from which it is about 12 km away. The Spring Festival takes place between streets and squares; therefore, it is possible to wander through the streets of the town and visit all the stands set up for the occasion, which can be found everywhere in the town.

The festivities, however, kick off in Region square, located in Piazza, one of the two historic districts of the town, a few steps from the Church of Santa Maria della Consolazione.

Another symbolic place of the event is the Palazzo Recovery Cutore, a stone's throw from the park of Aci, where awards and tastings take place that characterize the event.

The Spring Festival in Aci Bonaccorsi is an event that celebrates abundance in many ways: from food to entertainment, in fact, every day is a succession of opportunities not to be missed, to be together and have fun outdoors: visit the market flowers or discovering local handicrafts are opportunities for special purchases that cannot be found elsewhere; tasting sweets and typical cheeses directly in the land where they are produced gives each bite a special flavour.

But even the spirit can be enriched by participating in this festival, because the dance performances, games, music and cabaret will leave pleasant memories in all the participants, even the little ones who can have fun at the Luna Park.

The contests, from painting to fashion shows, are finally an opportunity to witness the originality of a community that wants to get involved.

A stay in Aci Bonaccorsi can also be an opportunity to visit the XNUMXth century town with its beauties such as the Castle of Aci overlooking the sea or places of history, such as the Historical Museum of the Landing in Sicily 1943, about half an hour away.
Not far from Aci Bonaccorsi, just 7 km away, is Acireale: a visit to the Cathedral can certainly be included in the travel programme, even in the case of a short stay.

How to get to the spring festival in Aci Bonaccorsi

Aci Bonaccorsi, in the province of Catania, can be easily reached by train, getting off at the Acireale stop, which is just 4 km from the town. From the station it is possible to take buses or shuttles to get directly to the centre.

Those traveling by car can take the Acireale exit on the A18 motorway which connects Messina and Catania: the town is just 3 km away.
