La Mother Church Lucca Sicula or of the Maria Santissima Immacolata, it is one of the most important sacred buildings of the municipality of the same name, so much so that it becomes the site of the main religious celebrations.

History of the Mother Church of Lucca Sicula

This building was built in 1640 and was originally dedicated to the Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
As regards its plan, it consists of a central nave plus four lateral niches created to celebrate the souls in Purgatory, Sant'Antonio Abate, Sant'Aloi and San Francesco d'Assisi.
Before the numerous modifications made over the centuries, it also contained a sacristy at the back and a baptismal font.

Architecture and any works of art present inside the Mother Church of Lucca Sicula

The Mother Church of Lucca Sicula has a very simple appearance, decorated only with a clock and a bell tower: it must in fact be remembered that this village is purely rural and therefore made up of humble buildings.

Inside there are stuccos dating back to the first half of the nineteenth century plus a painting depicting the Madonna with Child Jesus dated 1650.

Inside the Mother Church it is possible to attend the traditional liturgical celebrations and if you are in Lucca Sicula the 8th December , it is good to know that during the aforementioned date a great party is organized in honor of the Immaculate Holy Mary, as she is the patroness of the locality.
During that day it is also customary to consume the muffulettes , that is a particular type of bread flavored with wild fennel and stuffed with sardines and oil.

In the surroundings of the place there are other interesting places, namely:

- the Church of the Most Holy Rosary : located in the southern area of ​​Lucca Sicula, it was built in 1860 to accommodate the less well-off social classes.
Inside they are present four altars : the lateral ones are dedicated to the Flight into Egypt and to the Most Holy Crucifix, while the central one is none other than the main altar where the priest celebrates the Holy Mass.
The fourth was added in a more recent era and is in honor of San Michele Arcangelo , protector of the humble classes and bitter rival of San Giovanni.
During the Easter holidays, the two saints are in fact the protagonists of a suggestive event aimed at involving the entire community.
But the noteworthy works do not end there, as there is a decorated bell tower with a colorful mosaic;

- the Municipal Library which houses over 8200 historical documents, volumes and videotapes;

- Palazzo Lo Cascio : it is the only stately home left in Lucca Sicula, so much so that it is considered a historical monument protected by the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage of Agrigento.

Lucca Sicula is a small village located in the province of Agrigento, which is just over an hour away.
To reach it, therefore, it is necessary to take the State Road 115 or the State Road 118.
