ficarazzi is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea just 12 km from the capital of Sicily: here, among many monuments, the Church of Sant'Atanasio it is one of the most interesting and ancient sacred buildings in the centre.

La Church of Sant'Atanasio in Ficarazzi it was built in the first half of the eighteenth century (1722) on the initiative of the Marquis of Santa Ninfa. It is among the oldest buildings in the village, as well Mother Church of the village.

The main facade of the Church is simple and linear, with neutral and light colors and the only portal of the building stands out on the main façade, located in the center of the first order and framed by a showy baroque decoration which, starting from the architrave of the door, also incorporates the central rose window. There are no other windows, except for the blind single-lancet windows found in the second order, under the belfry and on top of the other lateral tower of the Church.

The bell tower was added to the original building more recently, as was the large clock in the center of the second order.

Inside the building, we find a single nave and several chapels, in which the statues of the saints are placed.

Continuing the walk in historical center of Ficarazzi, you will come across monuments such as Garden Palace, known as the Castle, which is the oldest building in the centre, dating back to the XNUMXth century and the original nucleus of Ficarazzi; the balustrade that characterizes it, however, was built many centuries later, in the eighteenth century, when the tower became part of the residential complex of the Giardina family. Also the Giardinas are responsible for the aqueducts, arched bridges which starting from the XNUMXth century were built to bring water to the farms and crops near the town. In Corso Umberto I you will find Palazzo Giardina Cannizzaro, the other large noble residence of Ficarazzi, while the Baglio Quattrociocchi it is a XNUMXth century rural building. In Ficarazzi don't forget to stop at Villa Grasso e Villa Merlo and in Remembrance Park in Largo Torre.

With a magnificent view on Tyrrhenian Sea, the beach and several restaurants in which to taste the best local dishes, Ficarazzi is a delicious coastal centre, a short distance from Palermo and Bagheria, which thus also offers you the possibility of easily visiting these two pearls of the northern coast. Among the closest towns, we also point out Monreale, Piana degli Albanesi and Cefalà Diana, all to be discovered.

The Church of Sant'Atanasio a Ficarazzi is located in Corso Umberto I, in the center, a few steps from the Castle.
Ficarazzi can be reached easily either in the car, both on the train: by car, take the exit for Villabate, which is located 3 km from the centre, on the A19 Palermo-Catania; by train, get off at Bagheria station which is only 3 km from the town and then reach the center by bus or shuttle, which await you at the station.
