The history of Mushroom Ferla Fest

Il Fungo Ferla Fest was born in 2005 to let the inhabitants and visitors of the village discover a local specialty that has always characterized these lands, the Pleurotuseryngii, better known as Ferla mushroom. With an intense flavor, this mushroom is found in hilly areas.

Receiving thousands of guests and visitors, the Fungo Ferla Fest has now become a fixed appointment in the autumn of Caltavuturo, offering tourists the perfect opportunity to discover the history of this village, whose oldest traces are lost in the Byzantine era. The hills of Fungo di Ferla, however, were already known at the time of Agathocles, the tyrant of Syracuse, and in the XNUMXth century BC they were an arduous battlefield.

Today the event is organized by various cultural and sports associations, with the collaboration of the Municipality of Caltavuturo and the Municipalities of Sclafani Bagni and Scillato, which together form the Union of Municipalities of the Northern Val d'Himera.

How to get to Caltavuturo

We arrive in Caltavuturo by car, taking the exit for Scillato from the A19 Palermo-Catania and arriving in the village with a short journey of only 3,5 km; alternatively, if you prefer to move on the train, get to Termini Imerese Station, 24 km from the centre, and continue your journey by bus or shuttle.
