Modica and chocolate are practically synonymous, even more so in recent years, since the Sicilian city that produces excellent chocolate celebrates its best fruits with gastronomic and at the same time cultural events, just like the Modica Chocolate Festival. However, the tradition that binds the city to the tasty product has much more ancient roots than you think, in fact, already in the eighteenth century, Modica produced excellent chocolate with mastery, reaching excellence in the processing of bitter cocoa already in the eighteenth century.
Today this very long tradition, which can count on the skill of local pastry chefs and the most sophisticated tools for production, is celebrated every year with a new edition of ChocoModica and remembered daily at the Chocolate Museum in the city.

What to do during the Modica Chocolate Festival

ChocoModica it is a real paradise for the sweet tooth: taste the chocolate it is definitely the first thing to do when arriving in the city; but the various "confectionery shops", patisseries and bars of Modica are found along the entire route of the Fair, so between one tasting and another, dedicate yourself to the pleasant discovery of the tourist attractions of the centre.
Il Duomo, for example, is somewhat the heart of the city and of the Chocolate Festival, here you can stroll, admiring the Cathedral of San Pietro, while enjoying a delicious cocoa bar… Continue the visit, also reaching the Cathedral of St. George, Unesco World Heritage, Church of San Giovanni Evangelista , Church of San Domenico, where you can also explore the crypt. Then it is worth a visit Church of Santa Maria del Gesù, which houses a magnificent late-Gothic cloister, embellished with typically Arab-Norman decorations.
Of course, there are many other sacred buildings in the city and you can visit them all if you want. Don't forget, however, to take a tour to discover the noble palaces of Modica, in particular Polara Palace e Grimaldi Palace.
In Modica, the flavor goes well with the culture and especially with the literature, as evidenced Leonardo Sciascia, but poetry also joins the ChocoModica, because during your stay in the city, you can visit the home, Christmas of the great hermetic poet Salvatore Quasimodo. How is it possible to get to the Modica Chocolate Festival

Modica, in the Libero Municipal Consortium of Ragusa, can be easily reached by car, from the A18 Messina-Catania, exiting at the junction for Rosolini, which is 19 km from the centre. If you prefer travel on the train, get off at Ragusa station, 6 km from Modica, and then continue by bus or shuttle to the centre.
