The next day, the branches are blessed in an evocative celebration. Then there is the Ddarata festival, with the pilgrimage of the faithful on board horses and mules dressed up for the party. Finally the last appointment is that of Vara festival, when the simulacrum of the patron saint of Troina it is carried around the village to gather the devotion of the faithful.

The history linked to the New Year's Eve party

Legend has it that in the XNUMXth century the body of San Silvestro was found in completely mysterious circumstances, inside a cave right in Troina. To celebrate the exceptional nature of the event, the church was built at that precise point and is currently dedicated to the patron saint of the village, so the inhabitants of Troina have always been very faithful to the saint. Even the celebrations concerning him are particularly ancient, given that traces of them can be found in the official documents of past centuries.

Officially the Festino is held every year in May, the one dedicated to the patron saint of Troina. In reality, however, the celebrations begin much earlier and do not end in May, given that the September party, always dedicated to the saint.

How to get to Troina

Those who want to reach Troina will be able to do so comfortably by car from Enna, along the Sp21. From Catania, however, the reference road is the Ss575 while from Palermo it is necessary to take the A20 first and then the E90.
On the other hand, those coming from Syracuse must follow the A19 and then the E932 while those who leave from Messina must take the A18 and then follow the SS120 to their destination.

Troina does not have a railway station but those who prefer to travel on the train they will be able to use the Dittaino or Catenanuova stations as a reference, which are the closest ones, and then reach the final destination with the buses provided by AST.
