What to do at the Feast of Sant'Oliva in Pettineo

The Church of Sant'Oliva will host most of the preparatory events for the patronal celebrations, with liturgies alternating with folkloristic moments in which a large number of faithful and visitors take part.
The main activities take place on May 5th, starting with the lighting of the Sant'Oliva oil lamp which marks the beginning of the religious procession.

From his Church, the Simulacrum of Sant'Oliva, created in 1575, is accompanied through the streets of the city, followed by all the faithful who sing the traditional songs.
During the event you will also be able to attend the Historical Cavalcade, in which horses are paraded through the streets of Pettineo and then stopped Piazza Sant'Oliva, in which a poet will tell, in dialect, some passages from the life of Sant'Oliva.

Participating in this event is really very simple, given that the town of Pettineo is well connected to the rest of Sicily thanks to the Provincial Road 174 and Provincial Road 176, on which the buses of Sicilian Transport Company AST.

Just 7 km away is the Castel di Tusa railway station, perfect if you travel by train, but if you are forced to travel by plane you can always land nearCatania Fontanarossa Airport or atPalermo Falcone e Borsellino Airport, both about 130 km from Pettineo.

Its capital Messina it is located about 140 km away, which can also be crossed thanks to all the connections available to move throughout its territory.
