Parallel to the Feast of San Calogero, other interesting events take place in Caltavuturo and its surroundings, such as "In Sudura" a historical re-enactment of ancient peasant life.

La Feast of San Calogero Hermit in Caltavuturo it has been celebrated for centuries on June 18, the date of the saint's death, with the preparation of the bread of San Calogero, a tradition that has been revived in recent years by the Confraternity of San Calogero.

One hundred years old, the Confraternity organizes the Festival in Caltavuturo under the patronage of the Municipality and in collaboration with various local associations.

San Calogero is known as the Holy Hermit because, having lived between the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries, in the last period of his life he retired to the Caves of Monte Kronio, in Sciacca, and worked here several miracles.

Taking part in the celebrations of San Calogero is one of the best ways to join the spirit of the community; moreover, by staying in the town, visitors have the opportunity to discover all the beauties of the historic centre, from Churches of the Immaculate Conception and the College, where one attends the Holy Masses, also admiring the beauties inside, at the Mother Church, where it is possible to admire a statue of the Virgin created by Gagini. Furthermore, in Caltavuturo there is a Church dedicated to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, inside which there are statues by Gagini and Mancino from Carrara.

Among other attractions in the country, we advise you to reach the Terravecchia Castle, located on the Roll just outside Caltavuturo, but also the Gazzara gorges and Mount Sheltered. Finally, the werewolves are real monuments of peasant life, in fact they are ancient shelters for grazing animals, used in the past by shepherds when moving their flocks.

In the village, you will find several restaurants, to taste the typical cuisine of Palermo and in particular local products such as cheeses and salami, mushrooms, oil and sweets. And after having discovered all the delicacies of the village, also discover the nearby villages, such as Sclafani Bagni and Scillato, which are located on the western side of the Madonie Park, another great attraction to visit in the surrounding area, for those who love nature and want to go on excursions in the open air along the wonderful paths of the Park.

The city of Palermo is about 78 km from Caltavuturo, and can be reached in just over an hour's journey.

How it is possible to get to Caltavuturo

Caltavuturo can be reached easily in the car, via the A19 Palermo-Catania, taking the Scillato exit just 3,9 km from the town.

Also on the train, getting to Caltavuturo is easy, getting off at Termini Imerese station, which is 24 km from the center; at the station, you will find buses and shuttles to welcome you, which will take you to your destination.
