August to Sant'Angelo di Brolo in Sicily, in the Metropolitan City of Messina, is a month to be savored with all tastes Sicilian table and between village festivals, the gastronomic event of porchetta in Sant'Angelo di Brolo is one of the most anticipated of the season: black pork porchetta, a specialty of the land of the Nebrodi, fried bread and local wine await you, along with all the fun and comedy of live entertainment and cabaret, dance and music.

Many artists, inhabitants of the village and neighboring villages, but also many tourists take part in the party with tasting: for this reason, a bus and shuttle service is available to participants which will allow all participants to arrive in the village.

In the outdoor stands you will find 700 kg of porchetta, salami from the Nebrodi and olives, sandwiches and wine from the local cellars, to be enjoyed in the company of the more than 5.000 visitors who arrive in the town every year for the festival.

The history of the Porchetta Festival in Sant'Angelo di Brolo

That of cured meats in Sant'Angelo di Brolo is an ancient tradition, so much so that it has its roots in the XNUMXth century with the Sant'Angelo salami, which made the village famous throughout the region.

Today this fame extends beyond regional borders, attracting visitors and food lovers from all over the country: the black pig, typical of the Nebrodi and raised with natural foods such as acorns, it allows you to make the very tasty black pig porchetta, which is offered to visitors of the porchetta gastronomic event in Sant'Angelo di Brolo.

The Festa was born in 2006 on the initiative of Gianluca Ferraro who leads "Pata Snack", the bar of Sant'Angelo di Brolo, to promote one of the tastiest and most loved local products in collaboration with the Municipality of Sant'Angelo.

Every year the gastronomic event brings almost a ton of porchetta to the tasting tables, as well as other tasty and genuine products of the Nebrodi land and invites many new artists to the stage of the evening.

When the event takes place

The porchetta festival in Sant'Angelo di Brolo is one of the tastiest summer events in the area and takes place in the evening of August 18th starting at 19:00. We remind you that the shuttle service, to reach and leave the town, is active from 18:00 to 24:00.

Where the event takes place

The event with bandstand and food stands takes place in Contrada San Silvestro, in the Municipality of Sant'Angelo di Brolo, in the Metropolitan City of Messina. Thanks to the free shuttle service active to and from neighboring villages, it will be possible to easily reach the village even from nearby villages, such as Librizzi or Brolo.

What to do during the event

To participate in the porchetta gastronomic event in Sant'Angelo di Brolo, you can stay directly in the village or in one of the nearby villages, such as Brolo along the coast, which is just 9 km from Sant'Angelo; in this case, to reach the festival, you will have a free shuttle service.

Before the party begins, you can spend the whole day discovering the centre: in Brolo you will find the Mother Church of the town, dedicated to Maria SS. Annunziata and built in the XNUMXth century, but also the medieval castle and if you love the sea, don't forget to stop at the beach for a swim; in Sant'Angelo admire the Duomo of the fifteenth century, the very numerous Churches and the town's museums, or leave for a small tour of the surroundings, to find the Zita stone with its mysterious treasure or the Fosso di Franco.

If you decide to spend a few more days in the village, you will have plenty of time to explore the area, full of attractions: the Sanctuary of Maria Santissima del Tindari is one of the largest, but also closest, places of worship in the area, just 35 km from the village. The Sanctuary, located along the Tyrrhenian coast on top of a promontory overlooking the sea, is a Baroque-style building built in the XNUMXth century, but enlarged in the XNUMXs: impressive for its size, it houses incredible frescoes and artwork.

Nelson Castle is located in Bronte, about 59 km from Sant'Angelo and is an attraction to visit even with children: the complex includes the ancient XNUMXth-century Benedictine Abbey, the warehouses and courtyards of the palace, for a adventurous visit.

65 km south, in the Sicilian hinterland, nature lovers will be able to take an excursion in the magnificent Alcantara River Park, discovering gorges and straits hidden between rocks and vegetation, in a pristine and unique environment.

Finally, a day in Messina could crown yours vacation in Sicily, allowing you to admire the Cathedral and the entire city from the top of its bell tower. In the city you can take a walk to the port and also discover the Botanical Garden, the Forte Gonzaga or the Regional Interdisciplinary Museum of Messina.
