The history of this church began in 1720 when the Prince of Resuttano Federico Di Napoli had the building renovated and dedicated it to the Holy Mary Immaculate. However, it seems that the origins of this church are much older and this is demonstrated by some documents preserved in the parish archives and dated 1628.

When the town of Resuttano was founded, in the place where the church of Maria Santissima Immacolata currently stands, there was already a church which was blessed by Don Paolo Calabria. But it seems that even this date cannot be reliable, as a marble plaque, placed on the right side of the façade, reports 1720 as the year in which Prince Federico Di Napoli enlarged and embellished the church, and states that the building construction dates back to 1506.
If the date indicated on the tombstone is true, it would mean that the Church of Maria SS. Immacolata was founded before the town of Resuttano was recognized as a land of the Kingdom in 1627. It has three naves and the presbytery area is in a raised position with respect to the floor with five steps leading to the altar. The internal structure is linear but with pillars and round arches which make the perimeter less monotonous. The central nave has a barrel-shaped vault with lunettes, while the other two naves have the typical cross vault. Although the church was dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, the patronal feast of Resuttano is celebrated in honor of the crucifix.

The rich artistic heritage of the Church of Maria SS Immacolata of Resuttano counts: an oil painting made directly on the wall of the chapel of the crucifix, apparently by one of the Guadagninis and dating back to 1771; the paintings found on the panels of the right and left vault which portray Jesus saving the world, and the discovery with the exaltation of the cross; the altar of San Giuseppe; the paintings placed in the left aisle; a very old pulpit; the priest's chair, the pulpit ladder, the tablecloths that decorated the organ and the tables, made by the master craftsmen of Resuttano.
