La Mother Church of Baucina it is consecrated to Santa Rosalia. In the town of the Metropolitan City of Palermo, the Church of Santa Rosalia it was built in 1764. The particularity of this Church is that it is the only one in all of Sicily, with the exception of the Churches of Palermo, to be consecrated to the Saint.

The church was built by order of Baron Calderone, who just four years earlier had bought the property from the municipality. Giovanni del Frego designed the project for the building and from some documents that testify to the start of the works, the names of Pasquale and Alessandro Cassano are also known, some of the masons who carried out the construction.
The Mother Church of Bucina was inaugurated on June 29, 1764. Over the centuries, the Church underwent several renovations, which makes it difficult for us to know with certainty how the building must have looked originally.

Also in ancient local documents, information has been found regarding the old Mother Church of Baucina, consecrated to Santa Rosalia and existing at least since 1626.

The architecture of the Mother Church of Baucina and the works it houses

The Mother Church of Baucina is a compact and massive building Neoclassical style, composed in the main facade by three orders, of which the lowest one accesses directly to the road surface and appears solid, with the wooden door and eight pilasters, which make the stability of the building even more evident.
In the second order, we find a central window and the continuation of the pilasters from the previous level, but here the lower height of the columns makes the building appear more graceful. The last order seems to belong to another building, because it consists only of the tympanum and the two lateral belfry cells, which appear very thin compared to the compact central body below.

All 'internal, we find a single nave characterized by decorations in Baroque style, with stuccos, high reliefs and niches, wooden and marble statues, and sacred furnishings such as the altars. The frescoes of the vault are of recent workmanship, the work of Renato Gattuso in the seventies of the last century.
