La Mother Church of Godrano and the Parish of the Immaculate Conception of Mary Most Holy. In addition to being the only church in the centre, it has a very ancient history, which dates back to the end of the eighteenth century.

In 1791 the renovation works were started at the ancient Church of San Pietro, which became the current Mother Church of Godrano. The Marquis of Roccaforte was the architect of this transformation, as a plaque near the entrance to the building recalls.

It is also linked to the history of the Church the legend, which attributes the fusion of bronze and gold in the bells to the will of the Marquise.

The architecture of the Mother Church of Godrano and what can be admired inside

The Mother Church of Godrano guards artwork and sacred furnishings of valuable artistic value, dating back to the XNUMXth century, including some works attributed to Monrealese, Peter Novelli.

The main facade of the Church has a simple and linear appearance, soft colors and a single, large arched door, in wood, which opens onto the double stone staircase that gives access to the Church.

Surmounted by an entablature which recalls the classic style, the main façade has a single circular opening in the second order and thecountry clock, which faces sideways, from the top of the facade. On the opposite side is the bell tower, which dominates the building with its belfry, from which the single lancet windows on the walls allow a glimpse of the bell.
While the facade of the building is perfectly stuccoed and painted in light colours, the sides are completely covered in stone.
Inside the Mother Church of Godrano you can admire the statue of the Immaculate Conception, made of colored wood.

What to do at the Mother Church of Godrano and in the surroundings

Arriving in Godrano, those who want to discover the Old Town, cannot help but visit the beautiful Mother Church: in addition to admiring the building and the works of art it houses, of course it is possible to attend religious services during Mass hours in the Church.

If the Mother Church is the most important and interesting monument in the town, a stay in the center will also allow you to discover all the richness of the surroundings, especially as regards the natural beauty which, in these parts, abound. But first, we remind you to also discover the sacred buildings closest to the village, such as the Chapel of Sant'Antonino , Chapel of Santa Barbara, located in the woods.

Outside the urban center, you will find the Fishpond of the Bourbons, King's pulpit, the mills, the neviere and the stables built in previous centuries along the banks of streams and rivers, while Nature offers shows not to be missed at the Ficuzza Wood Reserve, Rocca Busambra and the Gorghi, natural lakes in the Ficuzza Wood, known above all thanks to the Whirlpool of the Dragon.

Who loves the cycle paths, will particularly appreciate the beautiful cycle-pedestrian path that follows the route of the old Palermo-Corleone railway, now disused and converted into a path for two-wheel lovers.

Godrano is located just 38 km from Palermo, so with a short journey of about an hour you can reach the large and beautiful city overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, to discover some of the most beautiful artistic, architectural and historical testimonies of Sicily and the entire country: from the splendid vaults of the Martorana Church to the Norman Palace, from the Palatine Chapel to the Chiaramonte-Steri Palace, the inexhaustible beauties of Palermo are all to be discovered, including Mondello beach.

One last piece of advice, when you are in Godrano, is to taste all the typical local products, from cheese, to which one is dedicated every year during the summer season festival, cured meats, without forgetting oil and wine, which you can buy at the farms in the area.
