La Mother Church of Santo Stefano in Santa Elisabetta it originates from the last years of the eighteenth century. Over time it has undergone several structural changes, although the architectural style has remained almost unchanged.

The first major restoration came from 1853, with works that continued slowly, to such an extent that the building was kept closed for twenty years, until, in 1873, the works were finally completed thanks to the contribution of the citizens of Santa Elisabetta themselves.

The last refresh of the structure of the Mother Church of Santa Elisabetta took place in the early years of Nine hundred, in which the building was improved both from an aesthetic point of view and in terms of size, so as to be able to accommodate a greater number of people, also thanks to the population of the municipality of Santa Elisabetta.

What will stand out the most in your eyes is the particular facade of the Church, made with bricks and stones, which can be observed throughout the prospectus, composed of a single order surrounded by pilasters e pilasters. The entrance portal is wooden, with vertical incisions that give it a sober decoration.

On the top of the door is the inscription "D°.STEPH°. PAD MDCCXCVI”, which illustrates both the name of Santo Stefano and the year in which the works were completed, i.e. the 1796.

As you enter the building you will be able to admire a single nave studded with artwork that adorn its walls. There are two rows of benches present, separated by a long central corridor which leads up to themain altar.
