The construction of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Malfa began in the last years of thenineteenth century but the initial project, too ambitious and in any case poorly implemented, led to a significant slowdown in the works, so much so that the completion of the building took place only in 1928. The decision to create two places of worship for such a small village was linked to the need to provide a comfortable seat of faith for a population that was rapidly increasing to over 5000 inhabitants.
However, it was not a linear decision because initially the inhabitants of Malfa opted to expand the church of San Lorenzo which was much older and to which all the faithful were extremely devoted. Eventually it was decided to go both ways but the community's plans were thwarted by a violent man earthquake than in 1926 damaged the church of the Immaculate, on the verge of being delivered. At that point the renovation works began which lasted until 1928, when the structure was finally consecrated to worship.

The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Malfa has a very simple but even more suggestive structure for this very reason. The main facade is characterized by an inlaid wooden door, flanked by some niches which originally must have contained statues of saints but which today are empty. In the upper part stands out a round arch with an ancient clock in the center, while the bell tower is instead in a secondary position with respect to the main facade. Inside, the church of the Immaculate Conception in Malfa has a single nave, with bare interiors, except for some details of great beauty.
The main altar, for example, is delimited by a transept with polychrome marble columns while on the opposite facade there is a wooden organ which is accessed via a brass spiral staircase. On the left side, however, there is a marble pulpit while in the only full niche of the church, behind the altar, there is a beautiful statue depicting the Immaculate Madonna, decorated in gold.

How is it possible to get to Malfa
The municipality of Malfa is located on theSalina island, in Aeolian. The island is reachable by hydrofoil o ferry from the ports of Milazzo and Messina but also from those of Palermo, Reggio Calabria or Naples.
Once on the island, it is possible to move from the port to the church of the Immaculate with the lines of public buses which connect all parts of Salina, along the Sp184. Tourists who come to the island then often decide to rent a scooter or a car to move easily towards all points of interest.
