Fascinating for its conformation, protected by its position and abandoned by the hand of man, the Castle of Alcara Li Fusi has been largely conquered by nature, without the uncultivated greenery that covered the walls of the tower taking away a shred of charm from this ancient medieval structure.

Il Castel Turio it is an ancient 1096th century fortress and stands at the top of Via Castello, in the eastern quadrant of the village. For the more curious visitors, who wish to arrive on the spot already knowing a little of the history of the Castle, here is a brief mention of the events of the past: in XNUMX, Count Ruggero already mentioned in his treatises the Castle of Alcara, also known as Castel Turio, from the name of Patron Thurio, a Greek who landed on the island alongside Aeneas, also giving rise to the village, which was later called Alcara. Here then is that the Castle has its roots in myth and legend.

Legendary was the life of the Castle in the following centuries, which today comes to us composed of only the Tower, due to an earthquake that devastated the area in the fifteenth century, making the history of this ancient building even more mysterious.

Today the Tower can be freely visited by all interested tourists, who reach Via Castello.

The architecture of the Turio Castle of Alcara Li Fusi

The Castle of Alcara Li Fusi looks like a vortex with which history and nature rise in an embrace towards the sky; whoever arrives at the foot of the Tower will undoubtedly notice the Trinity Church, which was once presumably part of the fortress.

The charm of this Castle lies in its mystery, but also in its beauty, in fact the typical medieval tower in brown bricks, pebbles and mortar, seems to rise directly from the rocky spur below, in one with the fronds, which perfectly bind this work of human architecture to the natural landscape that surrounds it.

The interiors of the tower are currently empty, as well as there are no more structural elements of the interior, attics and stairs. The Tower was restructured in the last century.
