History of the Peasant House Museums in Aliminusa

The project of the Farmer's House Museum in Aliminusa was created to let the many curious discover the world of agricultural workers. Cultivation of the land, as well as animal care, has always been one of the typical local activities, for this reason the Municipality of Aliminusa wanted to give prestige to this tradition and decided to recover the still standing peasant houses, built between the early years of the seventeenth century (in conjunction with the foundation of the town) and up to the first half of the twentieth century. It is a path that obviously leads to discovering and enhancing the houses that have been closed for a long time and which preserve furniture and tools of the time, so that visitors can understand more in detail how the farmers of past centuries lived and above all worked.

The architecture and any works of art present in the Peasant House Museums in Aliminusa

Le peasant houses, regardless of the century of manufacture, were generally of two types: le land and raise. In both cases, however, the main feature was that of serving both as a home for the farmer's family and as a place of work. The terrana consisted of a single floor: it is a square-plan house, divided into two different rooms by a wall. In the first part there is usually the stable at the back and the kitchen further on, while in the second there is the warehouse and the beds for the family, separated from the rest of the room with some curtains. There is almost always a small attic which is accessed via a ladder and here are the food supplies and the food for the animals. The two-storey houses, on the other hand, are fewer in number because they represented a luxury of the richest families: in these the part intended for family accommodation was located on the first floor.
