Le Solette beach is located in a wonderful cove about 850 meters from the port. The clear, golden sand is perfect for those who want to lie down and sunbathe, but even in the colder seasons, taking a walk on the beach will be a real pleasure for visitors, who can also climb among the rocks.
Between Porto Palo and the Mouth of the Belice, there are also other natural coves, all to be explored.
There are two ways to reach Le Solette beach in Porto Palo di Menfi: on foot, parking your car at the port, or from Porto Palo, by car, following the signs for the Villa Maddalena farmhouse, until you take a dirt road and then continue towards the sea.
Porto Palo of Menfi
Porto Palo of Menfi it's a fishing village from very ancient origins, in fact it was thelanding place of Selinunte, now famous for the Archaeological Park.
The fishermen's houses that characterize the village are low and squared, painted white, with colored wooden window frames; the small fishing boats are moored at the small port, while from above the Watchtower looks towards the Strait of Sicily and protects the country, today as yesterday. In the centre, then, there is no shortage of places to taste i Typical Sicilian dishes, with sea view.
The proximity to the port does not harm the Solothurn beach, which for its clean and transparent waters has won dozens of times the recognition of Blue Flag.
The village of Memphis
If today Porto Palo is Menfi's landing place on the sea, tourists staying in the town can also visit the village, which is located about 10 km from the coast and 109 meters above sea level
Here there are monuments and churches, castles and towers, all to be discovered, starting from Welcome door to Memphis, which welcomes you with its auspicious sun.
In the center, you find Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, which overlooks the Mother Church of the village, built in the eighteenth century but destroyed by the 1968 earthquake and then completely renovated in the contemporary era, the Town Hall, today also seat of the Malacological Museum. Then, continue to the neighbor Parish Church of Maria SS. of Consolation.
Among the other churches of Menfi there are those of San Giuseppe, Maria SS. Addolorata and of the Blessed Virgin of Soccorso.
What do you eat on holiday in Menfi?
While you are comfortably lying in the sun on the Le Solette beach in Porto Palo, you will certainly be able to enjoy focaccia, fresh fruit, ice cream or granita, light and refreshing snacks, perfect for quenching your appetite between one dip in the sea and another.
For a special dinner, however, we recommend booking a table in the village of Porto Palo, perhaps with a splendid view of the sea. Here you can enjoy the typical dishes of Agrigento cuisine, such as fish cous cous or snapper in crazy water, while if you love meat, try the stuffed leg of lamb or fried sausage. If the menu includes risotto alla marinara and busiate with pork ragout as first courses, the desserts are the classic cannoli or Sicilian cassata.
For a quick and delicious snack, or to start the day in the right mood, try the desserts wheel of Memphis, where the sweetened ricotta is found inside two fragrant fried wafers, dusted with icing sugar.
How to get to the beach Le solette
From Porto Palo, it is possible to get to Le Solette beach on foot or by car, following the indications that you will find along the road, as already seen above.
To reach in the car Porto Palo di Menfi, in the Free Municipal Consortium of Agrigento, take the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo, until the exit for Castelvetrano, which is located about 12 km from the village. Who comes on the train, however, will have to get off at Castelvetrano Station and continue by bus or shuttle.
