Programming, therefore, extremely rich in content and with a strong link with the roots of the territory due to an experience, that of Barrafranca, full of events capable of determining an extraordinary historical-cultural identity despite a rather limited extension in purely geographical terms. A bit of history

Barrafranca, as we said, is a Sicilian municipality located in the south-east area of ​​the capital.

Its extension is about 54 square kilometers and it has, approximately, just under 12.000 inhabitants. The name of the Municipality seems to derive from Francis Barresi, the one who took charge of the construction of the first buildings and the first houses in the country.

For completeness of information, however, it is necessary to mention how there are some theories according to which the origin of the name should be traced back to the word "barriera franca", due to a precise orientation adopted by the Marquis Matteo III Barresi with the aim to give more energy to transactions of a commercial nature: the exemption from deductibles, the payment of which was obligatory for all those who crossed Barrafranca for the first time. Growth that actually took place, also at a demographic level, thanks to the skilful exploitation of the favorable geographical position as well as the extraordinary employment opportunities in the numerous local salt mines. During the 1693th century, on the other hand, there was a substantial change in urban planning terms through the adoption of a more regular plan with Corso Garibaldi and Corso Vittorio Emanuele as main axes. Plan that has not undergone major changes even after the terrible earthquake of XNUMX from which Barrafranca was able to recover with great vigor.

The nineteenth and twentieth centuries, in turn, were centuries marked respectively by the anti-Bourbon revolutionary uprisings and by the phenomenon of emigration due to the two disastrous World Wars. Up to the present day, where Barrafranca stands as a nerve center of agricultural production of the entire province of Enna and, urbanistically speaking, it has acquired an even more defined conformation in which marvelous tree-lined avenues, squares and gardens stand out inside the which the local population usually spend pleasant hours of relaxation and conviviality on the notes of the radio station in Barrafranca.

The birth of radio stations in Barrafranca dates back to about 40 years ago, the first was the RCS (Central Sicily Radio), which had a long period of great success, with a sufficiently powerful repeater it reached numerous municipalities in the Barrese area, later, for a short time, a private television station was born in the same location.

The second private broadcaster was Radio luce, based in the premises of the Madonna delle Divine Grazie, this is the only Radio that has resisted over time, because it still broadcasts today covering a vast transmission range.

Finally, RB3 (Radio Barrafranca 3), because it was the third private broadcaster to be born, but this too disappeared after the period in which private broadcasters were fashionable.
