Another characteristic feature of Blufi coincides with the source of the oil, also studied by geologists and historians. It was mentioned several times, especially in the context of Petralia Soprana, thanks to its floating nature and ability to cure serious diseases. At one time, the oil was also edible. Then, it took on a combustible black color for reasons that are not perfectly defined.

A separate discussion deserves the story connected to Blufi dam. The latter was never completed and was supposed to facilitate the distribution of water between the various Sicilian provinces, thanks to an uncommon capacity.
