Discovering the most beautiful beaches of Pollina and surroundings

Everyone rightly praises the historical and artistic heritage of Sicily, son of the many peoples who have succeeded in dominating the island.

However, there is a frame for monuments, churches and castles the nature, that in Sicily takes extraordinary forms: think of the Gole di Alcantara, the Scala dei Turchi, Etna and the many beaches that punctuate the long Sicilian coast. The west coast offers spectacular coastal stretches and among them are those of Pollina, a village located just 19 km from Cefalù: there are many beaches here, suitable for the needs of every tourist and set in a spectacular naturalistic context waiting to be discovered.

Pollina Beaches: here are the most beautiful

Sul Pollina coast arise lovely beaches, bathed in a beautiful crystal clear sea and protected by uncontaminated and luxuriant vegetation: this is the case of the beach Conca Tower, located in the shade of Chief Rais Gerbi. It is considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the Sicilian western coast, it is almost totally free and can be reached along a path made of pebbles and gravel. The seabed slopes down quickly and makes the beach a destination for water lovers snorkeling, while in the evening it becomes a sort of open-air venue where you can sip an aperitif under the stars.
A Final, baby seaside village of Pollina, then the beauty arises Santa Maria beach, completely free: a small staircase allows you to access this very peaceful beach, although it is no less popular than other nearby beaches.
Just 1 km away from Finale there is another beach, that is Turquoise coast: it is also one free beach and has an artificial reef that allows even the little ones to take a relaxing bath even when the sea is particularly rough.
Those who just want to spend a relaxing day by the sea, without too many crowds around, then all they have to do is reach the Mouth of the Pollina River: it is an inlet located along the road that leads to Messina. This coastal stretch is also a site of community interest, due to the presence of protected species of both fauna and flora.

From Pollina to Cefalù

Going further Cefalù, one of the most picturesque coastal villages in all of Sicily whose symbolic monument is the Arab-Norman Cathedral, you meet other beaches such as the town of Cefalù, lying in the shade of a rocky cliff with the houses that are reflected in a crystalline sea .
Then there is the Mazzaforno beach, a beautiful beach made up of soft sand, interspersed here and there with some outcropping rocks: the bay is located in Mazzaforno, just 27 km from Pollina and 3 km from Cefalù and is connected to other neighboring coves by paths immersed in nature.
Also worth seeing Salinella beach, made of pebbles and extremely windy, so much so that it is a destination for all surfing and windsurfing enthusiasts, but above all the S. Ambrogio beach, composed of sand and gravel and perfect for long and relaxing walks by the sea.

After having discovered the coast of Pollina and in part that of nearby Cefalù, it is worth discovering the village of Pollina which, according to some theories, would be none other than the ancient Greek colony of Apollonia. Pink Stone Theatre is the symbol of the village located in the heart of Madonie Park: despite being a recent building, erected in the second half of the 900s, the style is clearly of Hellenic inspiration. The bleachers converge towards the stage in the centre, while the view spans 360° over the surrounding area, up to the Rocca di Cefalù, Capo S.Elia. Capo Zafferana, the Aeolian Islands and of course Etna.

Anyone who wants to experience the beautiful Sicilian sea, without renouncing to visit villages rich in history, cannot fail to include Pollina and its coast among the stages of an unforgettable trip to Sicily.
