History of IntrArt in Linguaglossa

Originally the first murals in Linguaglossa were created by will of Turi Lo Giudice: it was the nineties and Lo Giudice was mayor of the town as well as president of the local Pro Loco. It was his intuition to exploit this form of art to make the alleys of the city more beautiful Old Town but also to attract the type of tourism that loves this type of artistic exhibition. Lo Giudice's dream was to create a kind of open-air museum, a gallery of works of art to be admired by starlight.
Thus he gave life to the event Woods & Brushes as part of the event Etna week: the best local artists and not only met in Linguaglossa to create their works, every year for a period of time ranging from 1990 to 2000. In the following years, then, the Legni e Pennelli event was no longer held but from time to time the individual artist was invited to create new works, up to the present day.

The architecture of the Linguaglossa murals

There are many murals in Linguaglossa, each of them tells a personal story but they are all united by a common thread which is to tell the most intimate essence of the village and its inhabitants. For example, there are works by Salvatore Caramagno that tell the story of Sicily, such as the one called "The farmer's rest" or the work entitled "Sicilian landscape with puppets". The author changes but the theme always remains the same, as can be seen in the work “Etna, dispenser” of life which was created by Carmen Crisafulli. The mural entitled "Linguaglossa" is by Giuseppe Cristaudo and is a clear homage to the village. Then there are works by Sebastiano Grasso, Indaco, Salvo Ligama, Gemma Lucenti and many others.

What is possible to do near IntrArt in Linguaglossa

A visit to IntrArt in Linguaglossa can also be the right opportunity to discover other very beautiful aspects of this village in the province of Catania.
For example, from the point of view of religious architecture you are spoiled for choice between church of San Francesco di Paola, that of Our Lady of Grace, That of San Rocco and finally that of Sant'Egidio, where the statue of the town's patron saint is kept. How is it possible to get to Linguaglossa

To get to Linguaglossa and visit the IntrArt open-air museum it is possible to move around by car from Catania and follow the A18 and then the E45. From Palermo, however, it is advisable to follow the A20 first and then the E90, while from Messina the most correct route is the one that involves traveling along the A18. For visitors moving from Trapani it is advisable to follow the A20 first and then the E90, while from Agrigento the reference road is the A19 and immediately after the E932. Finally, from Syracuse and Caltanisetta you must take the E45, while from Enna the easiest road is the same one you must follow if you leave from Agrigento.

The town of Linguaglossa has its own train station, so it is possible to reach it too on the train or with them bus numbers premises made available by the AST company.
